Valley Striders was born December 2007 after a group of runners ran the Las Vegas marathon. After participating in a marathon training program, the group did not want to quit running together. Realizing that everyone had different reasons for running but the underlying one being to maintain fitness, the group named the club Valley Striders in an effort to reach out to runners and walkers alike.
Typically, the club hosts activities three times a week and sometimes four. Tuesdays are held at a track like area to accommodate members wishing to do speed training while all are able to use the flat area for their one hour walk or run. Thursdays are set in hill conditions to accommodate those who are looking to build their leg strength while all others can benefit from a more demanding one hour route. Saturdays are held at different locations which allow for a two hour run or walk. Wednesdays are scheduled on weekly basis for cross training. Check the calendar to see what is currently scheduled.

Our officers: Kathy Richter, Treasurer; Barbara Schweppe, President; Shannon Fessler, Vice President and Christine Durbin, Secretary.
The weekly activities are suitable for all levels of fitness because the effort is gauged by time, not distance. The person walking gets done at the same time the person running. The person running would run out 30 minutes and then back just as the walker. They individually go different distances but still start and stop as a group.
The club holds invitation only events during the year for members and friends and also supports the community at locally held race events.
The club holds member meetings chaired by the President, Barbara Schweppe. Other officers are Shannon Fessler, Vice President, Christine Durbin, Secretary and Kathy Richter, Treasurer.
